Thurs, Sept 17: Family Engagement

Support families as a child's first and most important educator. Strengthen the partnership between families and their child's early education program. Promote healthy relations and opportunities or community involvement. Implement the knowledge and skills gained from the Family Engagement training. This is a 3 hour training. Non-members $15.

Thurs, Oct 15: Everything Infant & Toddler

Infants and toddlers learn through their senses and this class will provide teachers with ideas or age-appropriate learning activities or infants/toddlers and the importance of teacher interaction during play. Picture books, sensory activities, art ideas and more appropriate for infants and toddlers.

Thurs, Nov 19: CHAOS Board Elections / Make & Take Activities & Potluck Dinner

Create a new learning activity at each station that you can take home and use right away for small groups or circle time! Hands on workshop. Materials will be supplied. Registry certificate provided.

 

Thurs, Dec 10: Holiday gathering & dinner Location to be determined. Bring a $10 gift if you'd like to participate in a gift exchange. No additional training in December.

 

Thurs, Jan 21: Saying Goodbye

Helping children with Separation Anxiety. Providers can help children jump over the developmental hurdle of separation anxiety by learning why children experience anxiety and ways for children of all ages to say goodbye to their families.

 

Thurs, Feb 18: Physical Activity

Presenter TBD. 6:30-8:30 pm at Blackhawk Tech, Room 1315 Blackhawk Room. Registry certificate provided.

 

This workshop will focus on physical activity and getting kids moving!

Children learn through imagining and doing! Ideas will be presented for creating inviting and creative dramatic play centers to encourage social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development.

 

Thurs, Feb 19: Portfolios

Presented by 4C's from 6:30-8:30 pm at Blackhawk Tech, Room 1315 Blackhawk Room. Registry certificate provided.

 

This workshop will give providers and teachers strategies to document children’s development over time, as well as systems to organize the documentation. We will also discuss how to utilize this information when planning lessons. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of observations tools and portfolios they are currently using.

The Heartbeat of Child Care Conference

 

The Heartbeat of Child Care Conference will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville.

 

This year's conference will be notably different due to time restraints.

 

Doors will open at 8:30 a.m.

8:45-10:00 Workshop 1

10:15-11:30 Workshop 2

11:45-12:45 Keynote

 

Coffee and juice will be available in the morning and lunch will not be provided.

 

We will not be offering vendors.

 

The cost of the conference has been reduced in conjunction with these changes.

 

CHAOS members $20, non-members $30

 

The conference information and registration form will be available on September 22.

Supporting early literacy development is about building strong relationships through shared book reading and meaningful conversations. We will focus on building a love of books and developing language through meaningful conversations all in the context of relationships. We will examine the key components of literacy within our environments, including a print rich environment, engaging book reading, and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.

This year's Heartbeat of Child Care Conference

Our conference this year features David Stokes!

 

Keynote: Earthsongs/Singing with the Earth

 

Sharing short songs and chants that help us gain an appreciation of planet earth and what it provides for us. Using signs, gestures, movement and audience participation we will sing songs about animals, plants, soil, SCAT, earth and sky.

 

So who is David Stokes?

He is that guy with the gray beard and bald head who happens to be a Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education Teacher of the Year and an “Aldo Leopold” award winner. The Northshore United Educators (WEAC) honored David for educational excellence.

David has received the Master Front-line Interpreter award from the National Association for Interpretation. He sings and engages audiences of all ages in nature study.

Using live creatures and animal artifacts, songs and short stories, David gets down with his audiences, and makes learning fun.

David has a solid educational background in the natural sciences, holding an Masters of Science in Conservation Education from Michigan State University. He has been creating exciting learning situations since 1974.

 

Prior to 2001 David worked for 18 years at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center (National Audubon Society) in Milwaukee as Education Specialist and Director of Education.

CHAOS Recognized as a Professional Association by YoungStar

Good news for CHAOS & CHAOS Members!

 

Children Are Our Specialty has been reviewed and beginning on February 1, 2013 can be recognized as a Professional Association by YoungStar as defined under Business and Professional Practices indicator C.3.4 in the YoungStar evaluation criteria.

 

Individual active membership and participation both must be verified by the following:

 

1. Attendance at four meetings per year; either regular meetings of the association/support group or of committees/groups/teams per year. Meeting schedules, agendas, notes/minutes of the meetings will provide documentation of active participation.

 

2. Proof of current membership by family provider or Center Director and/or administrator either by membership cards, letters and/or invoices with dates of membership.

 

CHAOS will continue to provide membership certificates and receipts for membership dues for your documentation.

 

Your technical consultant may have recognized your participation in CHAOS as a Professional Association by YoungStar in the past, but it is now official.

Tour of Child Care Facilities

Join CHAOS for a Tour of Child Care Facilities on Saturday, April 2.  We will be traveling from Janesville to Madison to visit three child care centers. 

Carpools leave at 8:00 am from Janesville. We will tour a mixed age group family child care, a infants and toddler center and a preschool program.

We will also tour 4-C  from 9:00-10:00AM and 10:15-11:15AM

Lunch will be on your own. You may bring a sack lunch however each group will discuss restaurant options on the trip up to Madison. You will receive continuing education hours upon arrival back in Janesville at 3:30 pm.

COST: CHAOS Members $5.00 Non-members $20

Registration is required. Carpooler drivers are needed. Please see more information on the registration form.
